On the 9th and 10th of March I raced in the ILCA Gulf Coast Championship Regatta (https://theclubspot.com/regatta/GA0VxPVFDh). The 2024 ILCA Gulf Coast Championships was well organized by the Clearwater Yacht Club (CYC) and was held from the Clearwater Community Sailing Center (CCSC). I was super excited for several reasons, it was my first road trip driving outside of Texas with my dad, my first real large ILCA regatta with more than 100 lasers, sailing on the actual ocean, and going to Florida! Yeah! During the two racing days we had strong winds and large waves all day long. Even a coach boat had to be towed back upside down because it flipped during a large wave. The sailing was challenging, but large waves and strong winds made for a lot of fun on the water. I ended up with 47th place out of 61 sailors in the ILCA-6 class. Since this was my very first out of state, ILCA-6 regatta, I was very satisfied with the result. I know I will do much better in the following regattas! Clearwater is a very nice place and I know I will certainly be back next year.
